State of WA CMP Tips and Updates
As an owner of Washington Elevator, I want to share an important update from Washington State Labor & Industries (L&I) regarding the rollout of the new elevator Conveyance Management Portal (CMP) system. L&I recognizes the challenges many of our elevator customers and elevator industry partners have experienced and, in the newsletter below, it shares helpful insight into current elevator permit backlogs, recent system improvements, and what to expect moving forward. For building owners and property managers with elevators, the bottom section of the newsletter addresses the ongoing customer (building owners and property managers) account sign-up backlog tied to the migration of legacy data (the State of Washington’s prior system). While the process hasn’t been perfect, L&I is making progress, and we believe this information will help answer some common questions. If you have an elevator in Washington State, read & feel free to share.

Hello,
First, I want to thank you for your patience as we have rolled out the new CMP system. I know it hasn’t gone as smoothly as we would have hoped, but we are continuing to work on improvements, some of which I want to share today. We are also still dealing with a backlog of permits, so we want to share some tips to help them move through the processes as quickly as possible.
Permit Backlog:
The transition to the new CMP portal and the loss of one of our Technical Specialist has increased our backlog. The team is experiencing a high volume of permit submittals, code compliance questions from internal and external customer and general CMP-related questions. All of this is impacting the permit applications backlog technical review queue.
Things to keep in mind:
The backlog is worked from oldest to newest permit
Some specific requests that will ensure the most efficient processing of your permit
Please include all required paperwork. Submitting a permit that is only partially complete delays things for everyone.
If additional/required information is requested please respond as soon as possible by uploading the item to the portal in the appropriate link.
You have 30 days to provide that information, the permit may be denied with loss of permit fee if we don’t hear from you.
Once you have uploaded the items, please send a brief message to the technical specialist alerting them that the items are uploaded.
Final Permit Plans and required documents Available in the Portal
One of the system issues we have been working to upgrade is the availability of “Final Approved Plans” and other documents in your CMP portal.
Beginning with Permits Approved on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026 you will be able to download the permits directly from the portal. You will receive a new approval email with additional details about which permit is being approved and directing you to find the approved plans in the portal.
To find them:
1. From your home page, choose “Manage My Permit”
2. Search for the permit you want to obtain plans for and you will see a new column on the far right that will link you to documents related to your permit.
3. Click on that link and look for documents with the “Document Type” “Final Approved Plan”
Pending / Incomplete Online Application Tab updates
Based on feedback from customers, we have added additional columns to the Pending/Incomplete online applications tab to make finding the permit easier.
We are continuing to work on system fixes as quickly as we can to make the portal work better for everyone. If you have ideas to improve the system you can send them to cmptraining@lni.wa.gov.
Account sign-up back log
We are still working through a backlog of customers who have account sign up issues. Much of this is not system related but data related. We have migrated more than 60 years of data from 4 different systems into the new CMP system and we are finding much of it needs to be updated. This is impacting the sign-up process for Building owners and property managers. We have 4 employees working as quickly as possible through these account alignment issues, we ask that you have patience with us getting through your calls and emails. Please keep in mind, multiple calls and emails on the same topic increases the workload and further reduces our ability to respond timely.
Our hope is that as we approach the 1 year mark of the CMP in March of this year that we will have the bulk of customers aligned with the correct accounts and working much more smoothly. For customers who have been using the system for a while we are hearing positive feedback on the visibility they now have into their conveyances and their ability to instantly obtain renewals and reprints.
Again, we appreciate your patience with this rollout. Please know we are working diligently to make things work better for everyone.
